With a Spoon

Last night as we were going through our usual bedtime routine, I was struck by one of those moments. The ones where you look at your child and you are so overcome with such an intense bittersweet emotion that tears spring to your eyes and you just want to scoop them up and hold them so tight that time stands still and you remain forever captured in that one second.
But instead, I gave him a little kiss and said something silly~ "You know what? I could just eat you up with a spoon!" To which he responded with a wide eyed "AACKK!" Then he proclaimed, "I've got hopes and dreams you know!? And besides, if you do that, how will I ever grow up to be a Scientist?"
Yes indeed I could.... with a spoon.~Rhonda

That is so cute!! when my son was 3, one of his sisters friends told him the same thing. (My kids are 10 years apart). He was so mad he came stomping in to our bed and wouldn't speak to her for the longest time. Now, at 14, she is 24 and he doesn't mind her or any one else telling him how cute he is.
Aaah, they grow up so fast.

I so know that feeling. They are so precious and they grow up so fast. It is overwhelming sometimes.

I don't have children of my own yet, but being a teacher of 4 and 5 year olds, I totally get that response! ;)
Kids are so literal. I am such a sarcastic jokester with them, too. I think a sense of humor is important, so I am always being silly and trying to make them laugh.

What a super sweet post! Yup, your little guy is growing up all right.... Still, all the more reason to treasure every last moment with him. Yes, I ate lots of strawberries while in Florida. They were delish!
