Drapes & Silverplate

YEAH!!!!! The drapes are up!

The other day, I talked about the sewing challenge I had entered with my blogging friend Julia @ Chicken Scratch. She wanted to complete her kitchen valances and I wanted to make my living room drapes. It turns out that it was just the inspiration I needed to get the job done!

I already had the red corduroy panels from several years ago, but they were not nearly large enough to cover the huge expanse of my window which measures just over 9 feet wide! Since I had plenty of fabric left from my couch makeover, I thought a matching pair of drapes would be just the thing.

So...how do you like my first handmade drapes? The tabs at the top did not come out exactly as I planned, but I like them anyway, maybe even a little more than what I was trying for in the first place.

That done, now it is time to move on to the pillows, I want to create. I've been bitten by the sewing bug now, there is no stopping me:)

I must concede that Julia won the challenge...you go girl. In spite of her adorable four pawed assistants, she finished two days ahead of me. That's OK, just having the task completed is enough of a reward. Thanks, Julia for this fun and productive competition.

Before I head off to play with more fabric and thread, I wanted to show you some silverplate items I got a couple of weeks ago when I was out treasure hunting. The candlesticks are my most favorite but the little footed bowl with it's rose pattern runs a close second.
Hope you all have a great weekend and I will post again on Monday.
Since I won't post tomorrow, I will share numbers 3 & 4 on my Blessings list.
#3 ~Shinny pretty things that make your home uniquely yours.
#4~The gift of creativity that God grants each of us in our own way.

You rock Rhonda! Your drapes look awesome! And I have to say, we BOTH "won" this one--the only way either one of us could have "lost" would have been to cave in and give up.

And me too, I'm craving more sewing after this as well! Thanks again for being my sewing buddy... and I can't wait to see what you come up with next!

You do rock Rhonda! I'm very impressed. Anytime someone makes their own whatever (i.e. curtains, slip covers, table cloths, doilies, etc) I get a little green with envy. Maybe a chartreuse. I love them!

Love,
Julie

Oh, what a lovely post. I loved reading it. Your drapes are so pretty I can not believe they are your first!! GREAT JOB, girl. And your treasures are fabulous. I just love it when I find something this good on a treasure hunt! You'll really enjoy them, I know.
I am going out to some thrift shops today so if I find anything really good, I'll post it for you next week.
Happy Weekend....

Oh, and i see you are signed up for the PIF at the LITTLE RED HOUSE. Me, too....and I don't have a clue what to make. I am not good at crafts, AT ALL. The thing that pulled me into all this is the "you'll get something within 365 days"...hahaha....

Oh my gosh, Rhonda, I am in awe of anyone who can sew. I think your curtains are BEAUTIFUL! Love those candlesticks, too. Thanks so much for joining the gift exchange -- I was worried no one would want to participate. Email me your address so I can send your present when I get it done! :)

Have a wonderful weekend.
xoxo,
Mary

Rhonda! I love your drapes!! They are gorgeous... Can't wait to see your pillows. I have a passion for silver footed bowls or trays. I always look for the ones with the little feet. I just realized you are in the mountains of Georgia. You are probably not that far from where I live in NC...
