Like a Hole in my head...

Have you ever heard the expression: "I need that like I need a hole in my head."? Well that describes my latest animal acquisition perfectly. I did not plan it, did not even particularly want it. Really had no idea how to care for it, and yet.... here I am the proud surrogate mother to two little Blue Swedish ducklings.
It happened innocently enough. I was going to the feed and seed to pick up a group of Araucana chicks that had just been delivered that day. I had decided that it would be lovely to have hens that lay blue/green eggs. So, I picked my son up from school last Thursday and off we went. As soon as we walked in he spied the little box full of ducklings. He turned to me and said, "Please, Mom!?" I was totally caught off guard. Between his beautiful blue eyes, begging me to let him take them home and these....

cute little fuzzy faces. How could I say no? Yes, I know, I'm such a softie!

I wonder if I can train them to follow along beside the canoe this summer.... hummmm, I wonder? If anybody has any suggestions on how I might go about accomplishing that, let me know.~Rhonda

Oh my gosh...I just want to hold them!! How adorable and sweet is this! :) Congratulations, new mommy. :)

Oh, but aren't they cute!! If they get big enough, perhaps you can harness them and they can pull the canoe. Just kidding! Bread crumbs cast upon the water...yes, that sounds good unless they'll be so big that they'll swamp the boat. LOL!

Oh they're precious!!
And we had Araucana chickens for several years & they're the sweetest of any breed in my opinion! Ours have since all died out (from old age) but I hope to get some more soon! I love their colored eggs too! :)
Happy Spring!

Oh how cute Rhonda!! I want a duckling too~Oh aren't they darling!

My friend Carolyn at cranberrycrossings.blogspot.com needs some bunny advice...you had one right? Their neighbor got tired of their bunny and set it free....it came over to her house so she is caring for it while she decides what to do!

Oh Rhonda! They are so dear!! I LOVE ducks and have had my share over the years. They can actually be quite social, much more so than chickens. I used to put my ducklings in the swimming pool..can be a bit messy...and they loved to stay around people rather than go off on their own. Good luck!

We almost did the same thing! Except where we went you had to buy a minimum of 6, and 6 ducklings I did NOT want!

They are adorable...I couldn't resist them, either! If they are raised around humans, they might learn to follow the canoe. We hatched a duckling from eggs in my Kindergarten class once, and that duckling lined up with the children outside and followed them everywhere!
